Everything is so cliche on Heirs but why am I still hooked?
Dirt poor, plain looking female lead with a bleak future. Check.
Two hot, rich male leads with a terrible personality. Check.
Love triangle between two hot guys and the plain-looking girl. Check.
Pretty but bitchy second female lead. Check.
Forbidden love. Check.
Unwanted arranged marriage. Check.
Airport scene. Check.
Makjang birth secret and fake mama. Check.
Wrist grab, surprise hugs and forced kisses. Check
Konglish and Amurica scenes. Check.
Heavy product placement. Check.
The list goes on. I think I’ve not spotted a U-turn scene or hospital scene just yet. Or I might have forgotten. Yes, it is cliche as ever but why am I still watching it? I roll my eyes at all the supposedly romantic scenes and yawn at the brewing jealousy but I still look forward to watching every episode. Help!
Came for Lee Minho and Kim Woobin, stayed for Lee Minho and Kim Woobin, and will endure the length of the broadcast for Lee Minho and Kim Woobin. No matter if the stylist gives them silver metallic pants, neon orange sweater and green horns growing out of their heads. I’m hooked on the show but I can’t quite tell you why.
Where has Joowon gone?
Right after wrapping up Good Doctor, Joowon dived straight into rehearsals for the musical based on the popular movie, Ghost. Yay for him going back to do what he loves but boo for not being able to see him regularly on TV. He made an appearance on Yoo Hee Yeol’s Sketchbook to promote Ghost the musical. Watch!
I cringed and laughed and squirmed and cringed some more when Joowon reenacts the famous pottery scene with Yoo Hee Yeol (does he go by Hwi Yeol instead?).
(Yoo Hee Yeol suggest that Joowon show the audience the pottery scene)
Joowon: We need a female actress and a piano bench…
Yoo Hee Yeol: We can do that… We have everything you need. There is someone here that has a figure like girl group members. I’ll take a seat.
Why was I cringing?
1. Yoo Hee Yeol doesn’t need to occupy more than half of the piano bench. Dude, leave some room!
2. Joowon starts singing Unchained Melody and places his hand on Yoo Hee Yeol’s shoulder and proceeds to take a seat. Ack! Hence my complaint about the latter not leaving enough room! I give Joowon lots of credit for being able to focus AND on top of that SING IN TUNE.
3. Joowon running his hand up and down Yoo Hee Yeol’s arm. Aaaaaaaahhh! Gross…
4. Yoo Hee Yeol throwing his head back and Joowon coming close to the nape of his neck.
5. They are basically cheek to cheek *audience shrieks*. You can see the corners of Joowon’s lips curving upwards. He’s barely able to hold it in.
6. Joowon moves in for a hug while Yoo Hee Yeol does a major face and body contortion from the grossness.
Yoo Hee Yeol screams for Joowon to stop and fans himself from all the hotness (and wrong-ness) once he is free from Joowon’s grasp. OMG. Goodness, give Joowon a girl for the demonstration. But then, the promotion will not be as effective as this nauseating and goosebumps inducing version. Joowon just laughs it off like “hey, I’m just doing what I’m told to do.”
Ivy joins Joowon for the last portion of their promotion. Best scene according to Ivy? “The female audience will have something to look forward to because Joowon will be shirtless in the musical. I’ll be the one taking it off.” Ack! They share a kiss at the end of their duet (I am still convinced that it is perfectly unnecessary.)
Top Star Uhm Taewoong
Yes, yes I have an obsession for my 2 Days 1 Night oppas and ajusshis. I am listening to Sung Si Kyung crooning “For You” while writing this post. Recently Uhm Taewoong’s movie called Top Star premiered on the big screen. I did not pay much attention to his promotion for his movie but I made a mental note to watch it when it becomes available. On one of my random browsing on KBS World’s channel, I came across an episode of Happy Together with the stars of Top Star as guests. The cast share adorable stories about filming the movie and the childish pranks Uhm Taewoong and Kim Minjun would play on each other.
This week’s episode is a little different from their regular episodes. It centres around Callie Torres’ legal battle with an Olympian skier that had his legs amputated as a result of a bad hip implant and infection. It does little skips back and forth from present time to what happened a month ago. It sheds more light on the cracks in Torres and Arizona’s relationship. The stress of losing a leg and a miscarriage is obviously too much for them to bear. Torres’ father advices her to fix her relationship with Arizona. If it does not work out, at least she’s tried mending the relationship.
She takes up daddy’s advice and goes to meet Arizona who is staying at a hotel. Her question is simple: “will you come home?” Torres does not even need an answer there and then. She leaves and Arizona closes the door. Oh-oh. Who is that hiding behind the door clutching onto the sheets? Dun-dun-dun. It’s that blonde intern that can’t keep her trap shut.
Sophia Grace and Rosie
Annoying? Adorable? Annoyingly adorable? You be the judge.
Rosie: *British accent* I like FRIENDS (the TV show). I like free characters like Phoebe, Joey and Rachel. Rachel’s pretty, Phoebe’s crazy but not in real life and she’s pretty, and Joey cheats on girls.
